Instructional Systems Developer position at Troy, MI

This position reports to a Lead Instructional Designer as a member of a cross-functional team and is responsible for the design and development of training materials and courseware. The courseware may be produced for many different industries and will be delivered in an increasing variety of delivery media including Web, Interactive Distance Learning (IDL) , Virtual Classroom Training (VCT), or Instructor Led hands on. Limited travel to support development and validation of course materials may be required. This individual is responsible for designing and developing training materials that:

  • are completed in accordance with project plans and schedules.
  • meet design intent
  • are instructionally-sound,
  • grammatically correct,
  • consistent with approved style guides,
  • meet customer expectations
  • communicate learning concepts effectively  

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of two years of WBT/ILT Instructional Systems Design experience
  • Ability to research content and glean information from technical, soft skill, and business documentation, engineering personnel, or other technical subject matter experts
  • Ability to contribute as a collaborator to generate and improve a growing set of design models, making new model from existing
  • Ability to plan and enhance initial and existing designs
  • Experience writing learning and performance-based objectives
  • Experience writing and organizing content to support learning objectives
  • Experience applying the ADDIE model to course development in a professional/business environment
  • Experience applying knowledge of commonly-used concepts practices and procedures within Instructional Systems Design
  • Experience organizing content using creative message design principles
  • Accepts responsibility for courseware development, timelines, and budget activities, as assigned
  • Ability to develop solutions to problems of moderate scope and complexity
  • Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects
  • Effectively works as a member of a cross-functional team to ensure training materials target training and business requirements, and meet all quality control standards
  • Ability to organize and lay out content visually, including detailed graphic design instructions
  • Ability to perform design/development duties with minimal coaching and adheres to instructions and pre-established guidelines, as assigned
  • Excellent writing skills; (use of language, grammar, spelling, organizing content)
  • Excellent software skills in MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Limited travel to support the development and validation of course materials may be required

Desired Skills:

  • Ability to work with a diverse group of professionals, across multiple teams, to ensure project requirements are met
  • Minimum of 3 years as an Instructional Systems Designer or related field

Required Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, English or a related field or equivalent experience is required.
