Summary: An LMS has become an absolute necessity in modern times at corporate organizations because it helps automate a number of processes which would be too time-consuming and costly to do manually. In this article, we’ll understand why having an LMS is not only a good idea, it’s downright essential.

Is An LMS For Corporate Organizations What You Should Be Focusing On?

It’s just not possible to be in the eLearning industry or be a part of a corporate organization which uses eLearning without having heard of an LMS. An LMS or a Learning Management System is basically a software application which allows for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting, and delivery of eLearning education courses or online training programs.

As you can imagine, there are a number of LMS available on the market, each with more or less same features, barring certain ones with some extra features. Thus, organizations are advised to do thorough research before deciding on an LMS.

1. Adding Learners

In order for the LMS to manage and administer the users and the eLearning courses, the users/learners/employees must be added to it first. Adding each user one by one manually when they are lesser in number, say around 40-50, doesn’t seem too hard, but upwards of 100, it can become a daunting task. Fortunately, you can now integrate an existing database such as an HR software or CRMs with your LMS. This not only adds all the existing users in the database into the LMS, but it also adds any new user entered in the database automatically into the LMS.

2. Sending Notifications To Learners

There are a number of eLearning related notifications that are required to be sent to the learners in an organization, which include invites to eLearning portals, enrollments into courses, reminders to enroll into a course, notifications to complete courses and a number of other such notifications. Doing this manually can be a pain for whoever is assigned to do it, particularly if there’s a huge number of employees. Thankfully, you can automate this feature by triggering notifications when a certain action is done by a user connected with the LMS. Cool, right?

3. Accessing The LMS Through Other Devices

LMSs now have a handy feature known as an SSO (Single Sign-On), which allows the LMS to be accessed by users using various devices, such as laptops, tablets or smartphones. With mobile learning trending like crazy, this is something that is bound to become the standard soon. If, for example, an organization uses G-suite, the SSO can set up to help them launch the LMS app and access their eLearning courses using the Google App Launcher.

4. Automating Certification

Certification is an important part of corporate eLearning, or at least it should be. Certain types of training, including compliance and partner product training, require that employees be certified if and when there’s an audit, or the organization stands to face problems. But, certification shouldn’t be limited to just important training practices but should be done for every skill a learner/employee learns. LMSs can automatically send certificates to employees once they complete courses.

5. Determining Learning Paths

Every individual in an organization requires different skills to be inculcated in them, depending on their professional and personal goals. Thus, every individual must have unique learning paths to achieve those goals. Personalized learning helps engage learners, keep them motivated and ensure that they get only the learning they require. Learning paths allow learners to be assigned multiple courses to be completed over a period of time. The courses are tied together and once a learner has completed one, the next course in the ‘path’ becomes available and your learner is notified. This is only possible with the help of an LMS which automates learning paths well before the learner is enrolled into the eLearning program.

6. Integrating Social Learning

Social learning is beneficial for learners/employees as it allows information sharing, promotes communication and teamwork and lets the learners use popular social media they are familiar with. An LMS makes social learning easier by helping include links to Facebook and Twitter pages, create Facebook and LinkedIn groups, as well as join online forums that may be beneficial for your learners. The LMS can also be used to market your eLearning course on social media sites to attract new learners, as well as create eLearning exercises that center on peer collaboration/teamwork.
