Personalized Learning
During online learning a student leaves a trace of his progress and success. By following the student’s steps, a teacher can get a lot of useful information for further analysis and future benefit to other students. Today, many companies already know how to analyze such data and provide forecasts of a students' further learning. Such systems can tell which students need help and in which topics they should be supported.
There are also some special tools that are used to create adaptive courses. Such a course introduces a student to specific materials in accordance with his or her progress in learning. It seems that in the next 5-7 years the majority of systems for professional training will be able to analyze student progress and adapt themselves to it.
In the last couple of years a new trend named "Big Data" has become very popular.
For example, in North America there is 3,500 petabytes of stored data and in Europe, 2,000 petabytes. It’s estimated that humanity produces 2.3 trillion gigabytes of data each day, and that 43 trillion gigabytes of data will be created by 2020. This is 300 times more than we had in 2005. According to approximate calculations 4.4 million IT jobs were created globally to support big data.
The most important, yet most difficult thing to achieve is a way to provide companies and government agencies with ready-made tools and services in order to effectively use this data.
These tools can help anticipate the difficulties that will be faced by students/employees, personalize the learning process at the highest level and improve the learner results. By tracking the learning progress of a student, these programs can help a teacher understand which learners are struggling to pass the course and provide them with the appropriate support, necessary tools and assistance.
Adaptive learning will actively expand in the near future, and students, teachers and developers will benefit from it. Those companies that are be able to offer the most interesting and relevant solutions for the market will have a high earning potential. At the same time, those organizations that apply such analytical tools in their systems, will be able to improve performance and productivity of their employees and students.
