What is Shmoop?
Shmoop is a cloud-based classroom management software that helps teachers communicate with students via discussion boards, provide them with study guides and academic resources, create assignments, and record progress in a gradebook.
The application allows teachers to create virtual classrooms, customize courses, and invite students using email addresses. It includes a student engagement solution, Heartbeat, which enables tutors to measure candidate’s cognitive and metacognitive skills such as vocabulary, reading and writing, debating, social awareness, working memory, and sound and visual processing. Using Shmoop’s test readiness module, mentors can identify learning gaps, strengths, and areas of development on an individual basis.
The software includes predefined courses, which lets teachers prepare curriculum and customize lesson plans by unit or order. Shmoop allows mentors to set up exam schedules along with due dates, providing students’ with a timeline for completing tests. Administrators can also view the overall school and district performance and receive classroom reports on student’s mastery levels.
