Because of the success of our Early Reading Matters program, Teaching Matters has recently been awarded a 3-year grant to build and scale an online professional learning model to strengthen our current onsite coaching. The eLearning Instructional Designer will be responsible for designing and developing a scalable, effective blended ERM model that utilizes online digital assets, competency-based modules of learning, and video to support, strengthen, and scale coaching of early reading teachers.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct a thorough needs assessment of the Early Reading Matters coaches implementing the program as well as the teachers, teacher leaders, and school administrators they serve.
  • Collaborate with our Early Reading Matters team to develop a deep understanding of the program’s current goals, resources and coaching practices
  • Create a 3 year workplan in alignment with the strategic goals of the organization and the project’s requirements outlined in the grant
  • Based on the planning and analysis phase, design a set of digital learning assets and methods for our team of ERM coaches to implement in a blended professional development model in support of early reading teachers (grades K-2) and school leaders
  • Collaborate with Teaching Matters’ team of early reading content experts and coaches to curate the most relevant  and high leverage content in support of a blended coaching model
  • Understand the ERM theory of action and ensure all instructional design is in support of this theory.  
  • Test online learning experiences in schools with teachers, school leaders, and coaches and incorporate feedback into design/development process.
  • Work collaboratively with a wide variety of project stake-holders (Senior organizational management, ERM coaches, and content developers)  on the project’s short and long term goals and work streams.
  • Research and choose existing and emerging technologies to integrate into the online model of professional learning and in support of a blended coaching model.
  • Manage multimedia tools to support program delivery both asynchronously and interactively/synchronously across platforms (e.g. Articulate, Captivate, Camtaisia)
  • Oversee compliance with inter-regional guidelines for online learning
  • Lead ERM instructional design project in support of online learning, which includes developing and monitoring project plans and schedules; managing the workflow of the development process by coordinating the input from executive and program leadership, coaches, developers; and facilitating project team meetings
  • Lead the evaluation of the project based on outcomes identified in grant requirements and communicate/report to all stake-holders, including funders.  
Qualifications
  • Experience with instructional design theory, best practices in online education and coaching, learning theory, instruction delivery models, and metrics
  • 3-5 years of instructional design experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Instructional Design and/or Technology, Instructional Systems, Educational Systems, Educational Technology, or a related field preferred
  • Administrative experience managing online/hybrid program development and training programs
  • Experience and training in Quality Matters standards and application of these standards to online course and program development is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with one or more of the major LMS, including Blackboard, Desire2Learn, Moodle, or Canvas, Moodle experience is preferred
  • Experience with SCORM compliance and LTI compliant assets and systems
  • Experience in Universal Design, design of accessible course materials, and accessible software evaluation, feedback and assessment (Section 508, WACG 2.0 compliance and standards)
  • Ability to strategically manage large projects and collaborate effectively with a wide variety of stake-holders
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Elementary grade literacy instruction experience a plus
