Reporting to UCEAP's IT Director, the Instructional Designer is responsible for research, collaborative design and deployment of academically effective, media-rich online and hybrid courses and other online materials (orientations, information sessions). Duties include consultation and course design, course components and multimedia development, training and technical support, research and outreach, and special projects.
- BA/BS and at least 2 years of work experience in instructional design, online education, faculty support, consultation, or related fields; or equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
- Thorough knowledge of a variety of educational technology tools to support teaching and learning, as well as instructional design principles and pedagogical strategies for teaching enhanced instruction.
- Ability to maintain high levels of creativity and quality while meeting deadlines.
Demonstrated experience in:
- Developing instructional learning material and providing user support services.
- Quality online course development and delivery, the use of emerging learning technologies, data analysis/metrics.
- Reporting, project management, and outcome-based assessment.
- Consultation skills to assess user needs and provide support.
- Identifying, analyzing, and addressing learning gap/issues with problem-solving skills and effective solutions.
- Familiarity with Learning Management Systems, such as Canvas, from an instructor's perspective.
- Experience producing courses using eLearning tools, such as Articulate, Storyline, Captivate, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.
Familiarity with:
- Quality Matters rubrics and its peer review model.
- Professional AV, web, and multimedia development production.
- Usability and accessibility guidelines and best practices in instructional design.
Desirable Requirements:
- Master's degree is preferred in instructional technology or related field.
- Knowledge of/experience in international education and/or higher education Study Abroad.
Among other job duties, the Instructional Designer has to:
- Facilitate the design of academically effective, media-rich online and hybrid courses and other online materials (orientations, information sessions).
- Provide consultation by understanding pedagogical approaches, course learning objectives, and the instructional components while collaborating on online course development strategies and co-identifying relevant learning technologies that would embrace the design of the curriculum for online delivery.
- Serve as a project manager to coordinate assigned projects and courses and ensure the deliverable meets expectations and the project is completed within the agreed timeline.
- Assist in verifying curriculum alignment by identifying desired learning outcomes and participating in the course mapping exercises.
- Work closely with stakeholders to create the course development plan, project milestones, and the production timeline.
- Work with stakeholders to design the overall course blueprint and learning components, including but not limited to course content, formative and summative assessments, peer reviews, and online learning activities.
- Apply research-based learning theories, proven instructional design principles, online learning models, and the best practice guidelines into the online course development process.
- Design, author, and produce learning objects in a variety of formats including but not limited to print, graphics, audio, video, animation, e-Learning interactive modules, etc.
- Collaborate with the media team to support video production needs, which includes but not limited to studio media production, pre-recorded lectures, live event recording, synchronous webinar recording, and video post-production.
