The Learning Experience Designer designs, develops, delivers and evaluates innovative learning and performance improvement solutions for targeted audiences across all business units using best practices of adult learning and universal design for learning. Effectively collaborates with business leaders and subject matter experts to identify appropriate solutions to address business challenges. These include self-paced eLearning courses; scripted, animated video tutorials; microlearning lessons; instructor-led and virtual instructor-led programs; as well as quick-start guides and other job aids/instructional materials.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conducts needs assessments with business leaders and subject matter experts to identify skill gaps within internal target audiences
  • Determines the scope of learning and performance improvement solutions and projects
  • Analyzes technical and operational content and converts to effective and easy-to-understand learning solutions
  • Applies a systematic instructional design process (ADDIE) to deliver effective learning and performance improvement solutions
  • Writes impactful, realistic and measurable learning objectives for every project
  • Develops engaging, learner-centered self-paced course content, such as eLearning courses, simulation exercises, on-the-job training, and assessments for the company learning management system (LMS) using the Articulate suite of course authoring tools
  • Creates lesson plans, handouts, visual aids, facilitator/participant guides, interactive media aids, and other materials to support and reinforce learning and performance solutions
  • Writes effective copy, instructional text, and audio/video scripts for learning content
  • Recommends changes to existing courses and other learning content to better meet business goals
  • Develops effective assessment methodologies to evaluate learner knowledge retention, on-the-job application, and overall program/solution effectiveness
  • Designs an evaluation process to ensure business goals are attained by created solutions

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Builds and maintains a network of business leaders and subject matter experts across all business units
  • Maintains all project documentation and materials within the department shared drive
  • Loads SCORM files and other learning content into the company LMS
    Troubleshoots technical problems with content in the company LMS via reported user issues
  • Conducts virtual and in-person instructor-led training sessions on occasion and when appropriate
  • Researches best practices in adult learning and corporate training
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in instructional design, learning experience design, or learning program development
  • Bachelor’s degree in Visual/Instructional Design, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Adult Learning, Education, Communications, Business or related field
  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Adult Learning, Instructional/Educational Technology, Visual Design, or related field preferred

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Instructional design certification preferred (i.e., ATD Master Instructional Designer, Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD))
    Articulate 360 certification preferred
  • Training and facilitation certification preferred

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Expert knowledge of and experience with the Articulate suite of course authoring tools or similar course authoring tool such as Adobe Captivate or Camtasia Studio
  • Expert-level proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and applications, especially PowerPoint
  • Experience working in an administrative capacity within a variety of learning management systems (LMS)
  • Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop or other graphic design application(s)
    Basic understanding of HTML preferred
