Blended Learning For Your Reality

This session will focus on creating a game-based, blended learning experience with traditional and emerging technologies.

Learners today can be active participants in learning experiences through self-directed learning, small group interactions, hands-on practice, and personalized learning. Game-based learning, blended learning, mobile learning, and microlearning are growing strategies for further engaging learners at a level beyond the one which can often be reached in a group-based, instructor-led, classroom learning environment.

Yet, Learning and Development departments struggle to move beyond the classic learning approaches that too often focus more on information than interactions. And it’s difficult to blame training leaders and Instructional Designers for holding on for dear life to the “tried and true”. Each year, there’s a new technology or strategy that’s presented to the industry as the answer to training efficiency, performance outcomes, and learner engagement. However, the claims often come without merit and without any type of framework for implementing them with existing learning strategies. Right now, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality are the flavors of the month. Soon, you’ll be seeing more about Artificial Intelligence (AI) as THE employee development and performance improvement solution. And, be sure that if you’re not using these technologies and strategies, you’re doing a disservice to your learners, your company, and the field (according to the online articles and conversations).

The new strategies and technologies are solutions that should be considered for every company’s Learning and Development strategy. But how can they be implemented strategically and cohesively? Join this session to explore alternate reality games (ARGs) as a framework for creating better blended learning experiences that combine existing strategies with emerging technologies.

In This Session, You Will:

  • Explore ARGs as the ultimate blended learning experience
  • Identify interactions for ARGs that accommodate traditional and emerging learning strategies
  • Define levels of activity and which strategies and technologies are most appropriate for each level
