Beyond Blended Learning: A Winning Formula For Remote Workforce Development And Filling The Skills Gap

While remote learning has been on the rise over the past decade, 2020 was the catalyst for a significant shift in workforce norms. Even companies that rejected telecommuting had no choice but to go remote. In the last decade, the number of people working from home has risen by 160%. Over 85% of managers with remote employees believe that this work model will become the new norm for companies across the globe. At present, over 60% of workers say they work remotely at least some of the time.

The growing trend of remote work is changing the landscape of learning. This could be a significant challenge on its own. However, there is a second trend that makes the challenge even more significant: the growing skills gap. Many organizations are struggling to find people with the skills they need in order to be successful.

Blended learning is often the first answer. It might not, however, be the most satisfying answer. The first definition of blended learning is simply delivering learning in more than one modality. In 2021, this definition has no real significance as most learning professionals are already delivering learning experiences in multiple modalities.

This webinar will consider blended learning from a much broader perspective, in which it is a possible outcome but should not be an objective from the beginning.

The webinar will be led by three learning strategy leaders at Inno-Versity: Lonna Jobson, Learning Strategist; Miriam Taylor, Vice President of Learning; and Dr. Jerry Zandstra, Chief Strategy Officer.

During this session, you will learn how to:

  • Define blended learning in a way that will strengthen your response to the challenges of both remote work and skill gaps.
  • Apply a formula for meeting your organization’s learning needs built on the needs of the organization, the needs of the learners, the tools available to you, and learning science.
  • Consider blended learning as a possible outcome but not the objective at the start of your learning projects.

Dr. Jerry Zandstra is the Chief Strategy Officer of Inno-Versity, a global learning leader. Jerry holds several advanced degrees, including two master’s degrees and two doctorates. In his role, Dr. Zandstra provides thought leadership, direction, and a strategic approach for the organization. He has helped lead Inno-Versity to be a trusted learning partner for some of the largest companies and institutions around the world. As the VP of Learning at Inno-Versity, Miriam works to ensure that team members are not only in the “right seat” but that they have the tools they need to succeed in that seat. Miriam believes that you don’t build a business. You build people and then the people build a business. This is evident in the numerous ways she invests in their team. With a wealth of experience in classroom teaching and learning consulting, Miriam sets the stage for new projects, providing needs analyses and creating a vision for each project. As a Team Lead Instructional Designer and Continuous Improvement Leader, Lonna not only designs creative and engaging learning activities, but she also incorporates lean principles into their project management process. Working closely with a client in the automotive industry exposed Lonna to the concepts of lean and continuous improvement. Since she is innately wired to see inefficiencies, it’s no wonder she works with her team to find ways they can more effectively serve their clients through a clear and defined process.
