Some of the facts making TransformingEDU 2015 a relevant investment:

  • More and more educational decision makers are looking at technology not as a distinct budget item, but as a means to more efficiently and effectively address core goals and needs throughout their budget.
  • According to SIIA’s preK-12 vendor survey the education technology market grew 2.7 percent from $7.76 billion in 2010-11 to $7.97 billion in 2011-12. The market has increased a total of 6.4 percent over the three years.
Remote and online learning continues to grow for higher ed and is trickling down into K-12. Due to increased access and flexible models in online learning programs, 2012 was the first year that one-third of the nation's 25 to 29 year olds had earned at least a bachelor's degree. In the 2011–2012 school year, there were 275,000 full-time online K-12 students, and a total of 1.8 million distance education enrollments.
  • Collaboration tools which leverage email, cloud-based systems, social media centric platforms and digital content libraries are in demand and needs continue to grow as students at all grade levels can work on basic assignments and large projects without having to meet at school. These resources create a learning environment that mirrors more of their day-to-day digital lifestyle.
  • Online tools and places are used by nearly 73 percent of educators which include mobile applications, lesson planning tools, social media sharing, and lecture recording/uploading. Like the students they are teaching, educators have needs for preparation, classroom management and lesson execution tools.
