Getting Started With Storyline And xAPI
Over the past month or so I have been investing a lot of time in learning about the technical execution side of xAPI and LRSs (Learning Record Stores). I wanted to create an easy and quick way to help familiarize people with using an LRS and creating a launch URL. I felt like I had a better grasp on the technical side of xAPI when I was able to get a hands-on experience with working on projects and sending statements to the LRS. I had been hearing about xAPI for years; however, I never really got it until I worked on projects myself.
There are a million best practices around xAPI and I highly recommend reading up on them, checking out the xAPI Learning Cohorts, and (if you can) attending a workshop or session at a conference.
My tutorials are by no means the best way to approach using xAPI. The tutorials will help you to grasp some of the concepts of what you will need to execute getting started on the technical side and you will send statements to your LRS using the out of the box xAPI settings of Storyline 2.
What Are The Benefits?
1. Hands On Experience And Skill Building.
Through building a launch URL and working with an LRS you are getting hands on practice for what will be needed for more advanced xAPI projects.
2. Get To Know The Parts Of A Statement To Prepare You For Creating Better Statements.
A great way to get a grasp on what a statement is and what it’s made of is to see it in action for yourself. Once you are familiar with what makes up a statement, you can begin to think about customizing statements to meet your needs. You should use different verbs and descriptions to meet different needs.
3. Receiving Data On A User’s Experience.
You’ll be able to get data on how a user interacts with a quiz or slides in a Storyline 2 project. This can help you to determine how you might make changes to your project before you go live.
