Backchannel Applications: Embrace The Backchannel

Those in the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) movement in K-12 and Postsecondary education advocate for multiple means of communication among teachers and students that include using devices equipped with backchannel applications. These applications, which allow for a digital conversation while a verbal conversation is happening, can allow those who are afraid to speak in class, or those who prefer not to speak in class, to contribute to the discussion through written responses. Those who are shy and those who are introverted have an outlet that is suitable to their personalities, which helps them contribute to the conversation in productive ways.

Planning Digital Learning For K12 Classroom

Ravi is a grade VII student. Recently, his school got interactive whiteboards installed in the classroom. He was very excited about the Science class last Monday, which was the first class to use the smart-board. The teacher started the class by showing a series of pictures, which were a slightly better version of what were in the chapter. Then she showed a video of a teacher who was explaining what was written in the book. Class was over and Ravi was very disappointed. He was not sure what he was expecting, but he definitely expected something more. The problem stated above is common. Technology is used without much thought about the delivery style or method.

Online Learning And Teaching: Teachers Are Critical To Students' Success

Some online instructors actually did nothing more than that and kept their jobs, which only made other teachers more fearful of the trend to move classes online.

Creating An e-Learning School Culture

Education is constantly changing the way students learn and how instructors teach. Technology is often the driving force behind many of the world’s changes and innovations. In education, creating an e-learning culture is more about developing and tweaking what already exists, sharing a common vision, and doing things a little differently. The purpose of this article is to identify and outline a strategy for creating an e-learning culture within a school system ready to step away from traditional teaching.
