Instructional Design Models And Theories: The Cognitive Flexibility Theory
Cognitive Flexibility Theory, created by Spiro, Feltovich, and Coulson in 1988, focuses on how we learn in complex and poorly defined areas. It looks at how our minds gather and manage knowledge and how we change our existing understanding when we receive new information. Research on this theory aims to find out how knowledge is represented in our minds and what processes occur with those mental images. In this article, we will explain the basic principles of Cognitive Flexibility Theory and share some practical ideas for using it in eLearning course design.
