A Docebo LMS Case Study
As you can imagine, training a company with so many employees, located in so many different countries and time zones, with different needs and training topics, constitutes an extremely complex challenge. Let’s take a look at the main challenges that the IP & Science division of Thomson Reuters experienced:
- Speed: in a world where access to information in a timely and organized manner is essential to make successful business decisions, a slow knowledge sharing structure is simply not acceptable. Erica LeBlanc, Thomson Reuters’ IP & Science Division’s Operations Manager, stated: “When we update our products we need to tell our customers - and the faster we can share this information, the better.”
- Logistics: with such a widely spread workforce, the face to face training, even when delivered through web conferencing systems, required a great effort from the training team. According to Erica: “Wherever the training was needed around the world, it had to happen at 8am or 4pm local time. This meant I was waking up in the early hours of the morning, or staying up very late at night to work with my colleagues in different regions.”
- Flexibility: when dealing with many different needs, requirements, cultures and time zones, flexibility is a key element for success. On this topic, Erica stated: “We realized that, because we’re now delivering learning globally, we needed a system that we could customize in different languages, so users could see the information in their local language. Our aim was to make it easy for them to read and understand the learning materials.”
- User Interface: last but not least, one of the most important aspects of an online Learning Management System (LMS), is its user interface. The design of an LMS should focus on being as intuitive (and “non-invasive”) as possible, in order to allow the learner to concentrate on the training material. Erica said: “We were in search of an LMS with a streamlined interface - something that could be customized into multiple languages.”
Thomson Reuters needed an LMS that they could customize in different languages, that was intuitive and easy to use with a modern user interface, and that could cope with users accessing the learning materials via different mobile devices. All these requirements led the IP & Science department to opt for the Docebo Cloud/SaaS LMS as a solution to manage the division’s global training program. Launched in September 2014, the Docebo system at Thomson Reuters is now accessed by up to 3,000 learners in 6 continents in multiple languages.
