Preparing Your Online Learning Strategy For The Millennials

Millennials are the first generation to grow up entirely with technology and is truly comfortable using it and being around it. For them, technology is not an extra… it is an integral part of their live, almost like an extension of themselves. Millennials want technology to make their lives easier, faster, better, flexible, and more interactive and have a more pervasive presence. While we might not want to generalize, the millennial generation wants technology to be a part of their homes, their community, and their jobs. However, if you go online you’ll find a number of articles branding this generation as shallow, undisciplined, non-aspirational, and extremely demanding. Now that, according to me, is where the gross generalization starts.

Copyright Ownership And Control Of eLearning Course Materials And Courseware

Copyright ownership of eLearning courseware and materials has increasingly attracted the interest of educators, researchers, and companies that develop learning systems and publish online course materials and course ware.  Technology provides the potential for collaborative interaction and learning opportunities for geographically dispersed persons and groups (Biström, 2005; Edwards et al., 2002). The effective use of eLearning course and instructional materials has proven to be useful in diverse educational settings worldwide. In light of the complexity and expense of the resources involved in developing online course materials, many institutions are revisiting their intellectual property policies to clarify how they apply to online educational materials.

Adapting To Adaptive Learning

“Adaptive Learning” has been a frequently used term in education for many years but today, with the advent of more ubiquitous technology in schools, education systems are placing more emphasis on the advantages of leveraging adaptive techniques within both assessments and instructional programs. Adaptive Learning, in the domain of computer-delivered instruction, is now used as a fairly generic term and can describe a wide range of functionality from the fairly simple to the highly complex. The basic idea of adaptivity in learning is the ability to modify the presentation of material in response to a student’s performance.

Why Software Licensing Must Consider The Needs Of The End User

As the traditional software application market migrates from the desktop to the enterprise and mobile, end user license management becomes a must-have design issue for software development servicing the eLearning community. For more than twenty-five years, I have had the pleasure of working with commercial software development teams. My first real lesson came when I joined Software Publishing Corporation as VP of development where end user awareness was more important than features. And then there was the effort involved with consumer-based software authentication in the form of end user licensing. I was surprised how much time we spent in internal warfare discussing how best to enforce user access with product management, financial, and legal effort. I’ve learned some dos and don’ts about software licensing that I’d like to share. Warning: This is going to sound a little preachy.
