FACE 2015 Closing the Gap: Bridges for Access and Lifelong Learning

An important role for FACE 2015 is to facilitate the exchange and dissemination of information and practices in Lifelong Learning and Continuing Education. By promoting collaboration and innovation between providers and practitioners FACE aims to support and encourage a socially inclusive framework for Lifelong Learning, challenging exclusion and fostering full participation.

The annual conference provides a platform for its members, non members and students to participate in plenary sessions and workshops, with an opportunity to network with like-minded colleagues in a friendly and professional environment.  The 2015 conference won’t disappoint!

FACE 2015 Keynote Speakers

  • Mr. Brian Power – Brian Power is head of Qualifications and Equity of Access to Higher Education at the Irish Department of Education and Skills and is currently Co-Chair of the Bologna Working Group on the Social Dimension of Higher Education and Lifelong Learning.
  • Dr John Butcher: John currently works at The Open University, and is responsible for the development, enhancement and implementation of the university’s UK-wide Access provision.
  • Cerys Furlong: Cerys joined The National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE) in January 2014 as Director for Wales, from the Open University where she was Assistant Director (External Strategy). Cerys has worked in the post-16 education and skills sector in Wales for over ten years.
  • Nick Davy: Nick was appointed as the Association of College’s HE Policy Manager in January 2011 and specializes in all issues relating to HE, and HE in FE.
  • Sarah Howls: As Head of Student Opportunity at the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), Sarah leads on its policy for widening participation.
  • Neil Surman joined the Civil Service from university in 1988 and is currently Head of the Higher Education Division of the Welsh Government with responsibility for HE policy and funding and post-16 student finance. Prior to taking up his current post, Neil worked in a wide variety of policy roles within the Welsh Government and previous Welsh Office.
