Senior Instructional Designer position at Voyager Learning

The Senior Instructional Designer must be results-oriented and able to direct and manage multiple projects and activities simultaneously in a dynamic environment, and capable of developing e-learning content with a strong technical understanding of all that is involved in the design, development, programming, and implementation of a highly interactive e-learning program.

Essential Job Functions:

• Lead the instructional design team in the design aspects of the course creation processes.
• Provide instructional design and pedagogy expertise to new and pre-existing product development.
• Work directly with subject-matter experts to ensure the delivery of high-quality content.
• Initiate media-rich enhancements in online courses.
• Clearly articulate designs for the creation of visual elements and interactive multimedia to ensure that multimedia products, images, graphics, etc. meet the highest education standards.
• Develop course material deliverables that are functional, intuitive, informative, creative, accurate, inspiring, and easy to use.
• Identify clear expectations in regards to the course design and project development milestones.
• Communicate course content, features, and instructional design to staff and potential customers.
• Develop course material deliverables that are functional, intuitive, informative, creative, accurate, inspiring, and easy to use.
• Implement Class.com instructional design standards in the form of formatting HTML pages, inserting media elements, and applying CSS styles.
• Implement 508 standards.

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Bachelor's degree; preferably in education, instructional design, or instructional technology with five or more years' experience in instructional design (equivalent experience considered).
• Middle school or high school classroom teaching experience preferred.
• Strong project management experience.
• Strong knowledge base and working knowledge of instructional design principles.
• Strong working knowledge of industry-standard Instructional Design and Web development tools, standards, and technologies (HTML, CSS, Dreamweaver, Fireworks or Photoshop, 508 compliance, Learning Management Systems, etc.).
• Basic graphics creation experience.
• Design and page layout expertise.
• Sufficient generalist knowledge to be able to serve numerous content areas.
• Knowledgeable of the pedagogical theory upon which instructional design in distance learning and hybrid courses is based.
• Outgoing personality who likes working with people.
• Strong interpersonal relationship skills and the ability to work with a team in a problem-solving environment.
• Ability to maintain high energy and focus to work on deadline and juggle simultaneous projects.
• A willingness to embrace the discovery and development of new technologies.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

• Familiarity with a file versioning system (CVS or Subversion).
• Knowledge of learning management systems helpful.
• Experience working with a variety of Web browsers.
