The Multimedia Specialist at Colorado State University Online will design and develop interactive learning assets in alignment with best practices in online pedagogy to meet standards for quality assurance and accessibility. The ideal candidate will have a passion for both teaching and using a variety of multimedia tools and methods (e.g. interactive objects, podcasting, animations, Virtual and Augmented Reality) to tell stories and to communicate complex ideas.

The Multimedia Specialist will provide consultations and guidance to Faculty and Instructional Designers to create and develop creative digital solutions for online and technology-enhanced courses. The successful candidate will possess an in-depth and current understanding of instructional issues related to teaching and learning in blended and online courses, as well as experience using a wide range of hardware and software tools to develop interactive, multi-modal instructional materials.

Responsibilities

Multimedia Asset Development

Duty/Responsibility

  • Consult with instructors (including faculty, professional staff, graduate teaching assistants, and Subject Matter Experts) and Instructional Designers on the creation of multimedia projects for blended and fully online courses (credit, non-credit, and digital badging/certification)
  • Design, edit, and integrate digital content, graphics, animation, photography, illustrations, interactive assets into instructional materials and the Learning Management System
  • Participate in the development of strategies for User Experiences; make recommendations to enhance learning and/or user engagement
  • Ensure the timely development of accessible instructional materials
  • Integrate best practices, client needs and feedback to develop appropriate strategies for implementing multimedia technology across a broad range of courses and initiatives
  • Retrofit and redesign existing assets using current and emerging technologies to support the User Experience

Multimedia Project Coordination

Duty/Responsibility

  • Coordinate the scheduling and production of instructional multimedia (excluding course video) for all courses
  • Coordinate and maintain media production equipment and software (e.g.,360 cameras, tablets and audio recording technology)
  • Advise the production team on current compliance issues regarding media accessibility, as well as the best practices and processes for producing excellent instructional content

Faculty and Staff Support/Training

Duty/Responsibility

  • Provide follow-up assistance and support to instructors as they incorporate multimedia assets into their courses
  • Provide individual, group, online training, and workshops to faculty and staff about current and emerging technologies
  • Other duties and committee work as assigned

 

Qualifications

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Multimedia/Visual Communications, Video Production, Graphic Design, Digital Media Design, Fine Arts or closely related field
  • 2 years’ experience in designing and developing xAPI or SCORM/AICC compliant interactive learning assets using Adobe Captivate, Storyline or similar tools, and publishing content to a Learning Management System (LMS)

Preferred Job Qualfications

  • Master’s Degree in Fine Arts, Multimedia/Visual Communications, Graphic Design, or closely related field
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite applications including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects
  • Experience designing innovative learning assets including and not limited to infographics, illustrations, Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality, audio, interactive lessons, and animations
  • Experience designing, developing, and maintaining game-based and/or adaptive learning environments
  • Experience developing accessible, ADA-compliant materials
  • Familiarity with FERPA related to online learning technologies
  • Working knowledge of CSS, HTML 5, XHTML, and JavaScript preferred
  • Experience collaborating with SMEs and Instructional Designers on the creation of learning projects
  • Experience with the higher education environment and working successfully with university faculty/subject matter experts
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as an individual contributor and member of multiple internal and external teams and organizations
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, work independently, and meet strict deadlines

The Multimedia Specialist will report directly to the Senior Instructional Designer at CSU Online and will join a team that works collaboratively to support the teaching and learning mission of the University.
