What Is The Role Of Big Data In eLearning?

I’m not sure everyone will agree with me, but I have this theory about our eLearning industry. My, entirely personal, view based on the completely unscientific sample of what I have seen and heard over the years is that we take to new technology just that shade suspiciously. Once the initial acceptance is in place, though we go about adopting it quite enthusiastically. A glance at the adoption curve of mLearning will probably substantiate what I mean. There is another technology trend that has been sweeping the world for a few years now but has only just started appearing more commonly in eLearning – Big Data.

Stop With “The Future Of Learning” Already

I see articles every week that have “the future of learning” in them. It’s important to understand that the intention is not just to collect large amounts of data, but also to handle it effectively.

In just the last few decades, there have been dramatic technological advances that are changing the nature of the classroom, how students learn, and how teachers teach. Resources are more readily accessible and content is more engaging than ever before. In this blog post, I outline four of the most popular elearning trends of 2014 (including MOOCs, mlearning, virtual reality technology, and gamification) that could lay a foundation for the future state of schools, as well as speculate what classrooms, learning platforms, and teacher roles might be like in the future.
