Today, we’re going to look at how you can take the data you pull from your LMS reports to improve your eLearning product! It’s important to always look for areas where you can improve, so this is a great chance to see where you could be doing better and make some positive improvements.

1. How Long It Takes Students To Complete A Course

When you create an eLearning course for your students you should have a rough idea of how much time it will take them to complete all the course materials. This doesn’t necessarily mean the time it takes them from the moment they purchase their place on the course to their completing the final assessment, but rather how much time they actually spend logged into your LMS completing the coursework. Because eLearning allows students to work at their own pace, some may only be able to work on it a couple of nights a week, which is why you’ll get a more realistic picture of completion time if you just focus on the time your students are actually logged on.

If it takes your students far longer to complete a course than you anticipated, it could mean they are struggling with certain elements of it. Equally, if they are completing it far faster than you think they should have, it could mean that the material isn't as complex as it needs to be. Don't make the course more difficult for the sake of it, but make sure you're challenging your students.

However, if a lot of students failing to pass the same class, then this could mean there is a wider problem with your course content. If you spot a pattern, try and tackle it before it becomes a widespread problem. Compare your course content to the questions you set in your assessments and see if you’re actually providing enough detailed information throughout your course for your students to pass the assessment at the end. You may need to rework your course content or your assessment questions a little to make the course more understandable to your students.

4. How Many Students Are Not Completing Your Courses?

As with students failing your courses, students not finishing your courses are just as bad! Again, there are some situations you can’t help, but if you spot a pattern of a lot of students giving up on a particular class, then this could mean you have a lot of room for improvement.

Completion reports will also allow you to see when your students give up. If there are a lot of people stopping the course at the same point, then it could mean that this is a particularly difficult section, or perhaps there’s just too much information in that module and they find it overwhelming.

As we said above, spotting a problem like this early can give you time to fix it before it becomes a massive issue. 5. Details Of Student Progress

Reporting on how your students are progressing through your eLearning courses can give you some interesting insight. For example, are your students working their way through the course from start to finish, or are they bouncing between different modules? If you see a lot of students avoiding certain modules, or leaving bits of a class until last, it could be because these sections look quite difficult, or just not very interesting!

6. Mini-Quiz Results

Reporting on assessment results is vital, but sometimes it can be a little bit too late to help your current students, as they will already have completed their course with you. However, reporting on mini-quiz or assessment results you have set through the course can give you insight while these students are still doing the course with you; this means that you will have the time to make positive changes that these students can benefit from as well.

Mini-assessments or quizzes that students have to take throughout their eLearning course with you are a great way of seeing how they are getting on with the material, how well they retain the information from each section, and whether your students may need additional information in order to get better marks. If students are failing mini-assessments the whole way through their course, the chances of them passing the main assessment at the end are quite slim.

Again, this information from your LMS reports will allow you to review both your course content and the structure of your mini-assessments to see if you could be doing anything better for your students.
