Objectives and Motivation

The use of technology in educational settings is permeating the globe as more and more advanced technologies are available to employ for both teaching and learning. Distance learning, MOOCS, cloud-based collaborative environments, web-based and mobile telecommunications, gamification, simulation technologies, adaptive and personalized learning, better access to infrastructure globally, the proliferation and growth of mobile device use, and other technology innovations are frequently touted as the next “big thing” that will change the way teaching and learning takes place. But what does the future really hold for education?

This conference session titled “Technology Innovation in Education” is intended to provide an opportunity for education researchers, practitioners (educators, instructional designers, edtech specialists, etc.), as well as educational administrators from around the globe to exchange their experiences, ideas, theories, strategies, and technology-inspired solutions for achieving more engaging, more efficient, more accessible, and more successful education globally. This conference session welcomes theoretical, technical, research, as well and empirical papers from all areas of research in the area of technology innovation in education.

Scope and Interests 

This conference session aims at addressing the many opportunities as well as challenges, and current and future directions afforded by technological innovations in the field of education. New innovations allowing broader access to education at a global level, as well as innovations in how teaching and learning can occur, demand that traditional theories and views on how learning is designed and delivered, but also educational policies at the institution or state level, be reassessed, adjusted, modified, repurposed, and perhaps even replaced. This conference session invites articles involving, but not limited to, the following topics:

  • Online/Open/Blended/Distance learning
  • Instructional design innovation
  • Learning evaluation/assessment techniques/strategies/tools
  • Innovative educational pedagogies/strategies/tools
  • Internationalization of education, challenges, and impact
  • Educational data mining and learning analytics
  • Technology innovations and impact in science, engineering, and technology education
  • Technology innovations and impact in health and medical education
  • Technology innovations and impact in language training and linguistics
  • Technology innovations and impact in training and human performance enhancement
