Intelitek Announces Release Of Updated Curriculum

Intelitek has become the first educational provider to align its mechatronics and automation courses with the National Institute for Metalworking Skills’ (NIMS) Smart Training Solutions (STS), an innovative framework for modernizing training to keep up with the pace of technology and a bridge between educators and employers. NIMS STS is changing the competency-based credentialing landscape by measuring performance rather than only recording training records. Intelitek is the first company to develop and publish performance measures for NIMS Industrial Technology Maintenance (ITM) standards.

“Many schools rely on less-than-ideal methods to measure student performance, e.g., competency checklists, lab hours, theory tests, coursework, and trainer judgement. These methods are inadequate if not associated with practical experiences that truly reflect what students will face on the job after training,” said Montez King, Executive Director of NIMS.

King continued, “Many schools confirm that training was completed rather than validating if students are competent. This occurs when students are acknowledged as competent when only completing training requirements. Our credentials go beyond simple tests of knowledge. Smart credentials validate a student’s performance. We are excited to have Intelitek as the first collaborator to align and release Smart Performance Measures for NIMS ITM.”

NIMS ITM is centered around the areas of expertise for industrial mechatronics and industrial maintenance. Intelitek’s education programs include the training hardware, courseware, lab work, and a set of hands-on assessments. All are designed to support instructors and students and to prepare students to take the NIMS credentialing path. The solution includes over 60 courses and more than 1000 hours of eLearning content and complimentary labs organized according to each of the NIMS Duty Areas.

The Intelitek education programs include teacher guides, assessments, instructional materials, and hands-on lab exercises. All the material is aligned with the NIMS standards so students can complete the credentialing successfully.

As Industry 4.0, also known as smart manufacturing, drives a resurgence of industry in the United States, the need for smarter, more qualified maintenance technicians and system operators is greater than the number graduating from schools. Intelitek’s advanced manufacturing education programs focus on teaching both technical and employment skills so that graduates are proficient in self-education, problem analysis, and system knowledge—skills they will need to keep up with industry changes and the complex roles they will fill.

“NIMS ITM is the industry’s most advanced credential, and it’s an excellent way to approach the introduction of smart technology in the industry,” said Graham Celine, VP, Business Development of Intelitek. “The credential evaluates knowledge, but more importantly, it focuses on process and understanding of the concepts. Intelitek has embraced this independent, vendor-agnostic approach to credentialing because we agree that it provides the optimum solution for students and their future employers.”
