It simply gets better and better with every release
What do you like best?
Fluid boxes, virtual reality features, and 360 degree. We have been a customer of Captivate since 2016 and are also utilizing their LMS component.
What do you dislike?
Believe it or not, there is not much to add to this section. Most of the cons were more than apparent in the 2017 release, but this is a huge step forward.

Great platform with an awesome screen capturing tool
What do you like best?
The fact that I can import Powerpoint slides easily, as well as combine several images from different sources and formats. Their screen capturing tool is great.
What do you dislike?
I found that it's extremely difficult to find a point of contact within Adobe in case you are struggling with this software. There is a help page, and several tutorials online, but would have preferred to have an assigned point of contact.

Responsiveness courses can be made easily on this tool..
What do you like best?
Nice features of this tool are the Fluid box that help create e-learning courses and personalize learning experience for users. It allows conversion of desktop courses to mobile courses.
What do you dislike?
The needs to be cloud-based and auto sync with other systems should be made available so shared course creation is easy.

A real life saver during the rise of the Covid 19 pandemic
What do you like best?
As soon as the pandemic hit us, we had to more or less update all our training manuals and deliver our training online. We found that it was extremely easy for our ID's to create video content for all our new employees and that contributed to our company's growth.
What do you dislike?
Since I was not directly involved in the video editing process my feedback is based on my IDs' experience take on the software.

New release has exciting feature, 360° Virtual Reality etc..
What do you like best?
The latest release of Captivate has great 360° Virtual Reality features that makes a great learner experience.
What do you dislike?
It takes some time to understand the tool, some standardised themes and templates for faster course creation will be good.

Excellent tool to create remarkable training material
What do you like best?
I have been using Captivate since the very first version was released. Throughout the years, their tool has matured, improved, and introduced a wide variety of new features. (e.g. VR, Fluid boxes)
What do you dislike?
There is not much to add here, if pushed I would probably say that it takes time to develop a basic understanding of all the features and how they can help you achieve your goals. Worth checking the online tutorials too.

The quality you expect from Adobe- if you are looking for VR- take a look!
What do you like best?
-Busting with features all in one place -VR support- this is a growing and untapped area; if you have an interest in VR Education then, you should try Captivate -Easy to learn and use
What do you dislike?
There is a learning curve for new users- this is to be expected with such a robust program- This may be too much program for some people who won't take advantage of all of its features. Make sure you know what you want.

Has capabilities to publish courses as Mobile apps
What do you like best?
Mobile learning course content creation can be easily achieved here, with a set of Adobe tools the courses can be published as mobile apps into IOS and Android. Using Adobe captivate and PhoneGap, this can be done with just a few clicks.
What do you dislike?
Some of the apps like Phonegap needs to be taken separately. It is not included in the captivate subscription.

What do you like best?
Adobe Captivate is the most well-known course-authoring software for a reason. It allows all your creativity to come into play and deliver excellent content as long as you find a way to discover all its features and how to use them.
What do you dislike?
It's not an easy tool, it takes years to master it and get to use the variety of features that it provides you with. Still, it's better than any other Authoring Tool right now in the market.

Great for direct publishing for web, makes elearning easy
What do you like best?
A great feature of Adobe Captivate is the ability to retain text, shapes, animations and media files in ppt projects to captivate and publish them to HTML5. These can be then published to Captivate prime LMS as well. For mobile and other devices, it provides scalable support.
What do you dislike?
Publishing to HTML5 for a responsive project can take some extra steps and time. User interface can be improved

What do you like best?
Learners use multiple devices for elearning. The options to ensure responsiveness on different devices is good. The VR features are great as well.
What do you dislike?
Editing the responsiveness section for each device should be made easier. otherwise its a good tool for companies where learning is diverse.

Using Captivate, you can ensure that your content is accessible to everyone by defining text equivalents and inserting clickable areas with keyboard access and more.

What do you like best?
For creating simulations and demos, screen grabs and recordings are very important. The options for quick and decent quality recordings and import are available in just a few click. These are important to make courses interactive and easy to learn.
What do you dislike?
When the work involves heavy media files, storage and sharing is very important. Cloud storage instead of system hard drive will be good.

While making courses in captivate, there are options to add overlay slides. These are very useful for quick info or checks during the course progress to keep the learning interactive.

What do you like best?
Adobe Captivate has some really useful features like a live preview. Using QR codes one can see the project preview from a mobile device. Publishing to an LMS also is easy.
What do you dislike?
It needs memory to install and run and memory needs to be for monitored so there is enough space for the project files.

What do you like best?
Adobe Captivate is well suited for course creation for all types of learners. Especially in terms of accessibility standards. It allows creating simulations that enable adherence to web content accessibility standards for learners with auditory, visual, speech and cognitive disabilities etc.. It is an truly an inclusive course authoring tool.
What do you dislike?
Inbuilt text to speech and other easy accessibility features like audio triggers should be made available.

It integrates well and well knit with other Adobe tools
What do you like best?
There are really efficient features like bookmarking, linking of videos from Youtube etc.. On those overlays and knowledge check blurbs can be added to make learning interactive and easy.
What do you dislike?
If you are not familiar with Adobe interafaces in general, it may take time to master this tool. The advanced actions sections can take even more time to master.

Responsive fluid box features are great for next gen mobile learning design
What do you like best?
For a good learner experience, the courses should be able to auto adjust to different devices. Interface is very important. The fluid boxes in Captivate does that job well. By defining a few parameters, it can easily be adopted to different devices. Predefinied options are there too to give a truly responsive experience.
What do you dislike?
Some of the interface in the panels needs to look more user friendly. Too much of grey can make it seem dull.

Adobe has loaded captivate 2019 release with amazing VR based features
What do you like best?
It is nice to see the immersive learning features in Captivate’s latest release. Capabilities to import 360° media, place checkpoints, blurbs, hotspots and a VR environment onto the learners screen is brilliantly made.
What do you dislike?
It is a pretty heavy software and tends to take up storage and cache space. Other than that it is a great tool.

Great language support in Adobe Captivate course tool.
What do you like best?
Its nice to see good Language support in Adobe Captivate’s 2019 release. It supports Arabic and other right to left languages. UI and documentations in many languages are available aswell.
What do you dislike?
Not a lot of dislikes, the UI can be better. There is an upgrade fee for moving up from older versions.

Good features, allows customization of interactive elements
What do you like best?
In Adobe Captivate, interactive functions like drag drop can be customized so that the elearning is interactive and relevant. Knowledge checks, quiz, drag drop functionalities can have multi device support. Audio and custom triggers can be added for each interaction making it fun and easy to use.
What do you dislike?
Making the elements interactive should be easy with readymade templates. Right now everything needs to be created from scratch.

Consistency of courses can be achieved in Adobe Captivate
What do you like best?
Just like how Powerpoint has a master slide to show a consistent format and flow, Captivate also has options to define the theme or format of the entire course look and feel. These can be done from a single place making it a neat structured course authoring tool.
What do you dislike?
Adobe captivate needs to be more easy to use, it can be a little tedious to use for complex actions.

What do you like best?
External rich media integration is important in elearning. Adobe Captivate allows in-course streaming from YouTube. It allows external audio tracks and effects, and editing them to sync with slides and customizing interactions accordingly.
What do you dislike?
Editing and importing needs some care so that quality is not lost. Easy Templates for easy course authoring will be good.

What do you like best?
For some learning courses, Geo-Location is important. Specific locations triggers specific content. With Google Maps Integration with Adobe Captivate, location based settings can be used to create a dynamic learning experience.
What do you dislike?
It may Consume space in the cache, it needs to be continuously cleared for creating new content and smooth functioning.

Provides great options for a mobile learning environment
What do you like best?
Mobile learning has a lot of gestures and user action such as pinch zoom, swipe, tap etc.. Such actions can be recorded and added as video in the learning. Audio, microphone input can be added as well to give a rich course content creation experience through Adobe Captivate.
What do you dislike?
Capturing and importing mobile gestures needs to be done well so that quality is not lost. More readymade themes are required as well..

While creating courses it is important to preview how the course content will display on different devices so that learners user experience is good. Adobe captivate allows adding of new devices in the preset menu so that options for learners are covered.

Some of the courses are very text heavy and don’t fit into the screen. Captivate allows responsive text alignment with collapsible options and learners can click more to view more text. This is a simple but useful feature.

Steps in defining interaction functions can be made a little easier. Other than that it is a great tool

The geolocation feature identifies the latitude and longitude of the user’s location and accordingly presents the course programmed for the audience of that location. This implies that you could customize your course content that is relevant and appeals to learners in a particular location.

Great for creating interactions for learners to use.
What do you like best?
Its great that it can create new interactions using the newly added option, Hotspot, assign actions and add text labels. Hotspots can also be added or imported to the 360° slides. The tool lets you add multiple choice questions and True or False type of questions to the 360° slides.
What do you dislike?
For quick course creation there needs to be some apps, toned down versions for the mobile, it has the storyboard etc.. but something more will be good.

Since Adobe Captivate compatibility is good, HTML5, course PPTs are compatible. It also integrates seamlessly with other Adobe tools such as Photoshop, so you can always design the slides on Photoshop for added effect; then import them to Captivate to add other effects or make edits.

Beginners and small or medium scale organizations may not need all of Captivate’s features. should price accordingly..

Authoring knowledge check sections and the workflow can be done well in Captivate.
What do you like best?
Customization in quiz creation is important to make sure learners are on track with their learning. There are options to go back and revisit course sections if the learner fails the knowledge check.. the workflow is important so that they don’t have to go through irrelevant sections. Fill in the blanks, matching, text input options are all available in the smart and engaging quiz and knowledge check options.
What do you dislike?
Smarter quizzing options or predefined templates where one can just add the questions and options will be very useful

A versatile tool for easy editing of media and integration with other Adobe tools.
What do you like best?
It has a tight integration with other Adobe tools. For editing audio, images or animations, other Adobe tools in the Creative Cloud suite can be of great help. There wont be issues with formats and readability. These different formats of media can be easily edited in the Creative suit and brought back into captivate making course authoring easy. Captivate has some inbuilt editing options as well.
What do you dislike?
Needs to work better with Shared storage drives and external storage but Adobe Captivate’s integration and editing options make the elearning courses engaging and avid learners

Apps for Storyboarding is a really cool feature...
What do you like best?
Storyboards are very important for course creation and authoring, it helps create a frame for your learning course. Adobe Captivate draft has an IOS app which allows quick storyboarding, interations, content, question, quizzes, branching etc.. These storyboards can be imported into Captivate and made responsive for a multi device environment.
What do you dislike?
Captivate draft or storyboard should be made available on Android as well. More options on mobile is required.

Exciting new features and courses authored can be published to SCORM
What do you like best?
Most LMSs are SCORM compliant, this makes integration easy. Parts which are not fully compatible can be quickly previewed and corrections can be done. The new VR and 360° features makes captivate really exciting.
What do you dislike?
No major negatives noticed... but need to check compatibility between other LMSs and adobe Captivate...

Easy Background Customization for learning media..
What do you like best?
Customization and personalization is easy using Chromakey effect especially with relevant custom backgrounds, Backgrounds can be made transparent with quick clicks without using greenscreens. Captivate has some free media assets as well.
What do you dislike?
Transporting finished media between creative cloud and captivate can be a little time consuming.. but the results will be good.

Good Customised interaction options for courses...
What do you like best?
Captivate’s interactive customization especially for the multistate objects is pretty good. With a few clicks, it allows editing of change of state for images, shapes, color, buttons, text etc.. This is very useful for learners especially when they the courses are monotonous, it adds an element of interactivity in the User experience.
What do you dislike?
There needs to be some more intuitive predefined action buttons instead of programming every action in the states timeline.

Very good integration with Learning management systems.
What do you like best?
The integration with Captivate Prime LMS is very good. With a single click it can integrate and publish into the Learning Management System which also integrates with Adobe Connect and other handy tools. This makes a nice compact integrated unit.
What do you dislike?
Not a lot of negatives but before publishing a course to an LMS, compatibility needs to be checked.

Impressive features. Shared actions capabilities are very useful. Need more intuitiveness.
What do you like best?
There are some dynamic features in Adobe Captivate. Features like advanced shared actions are great when defining interactions. This helps templating and using for other projects or modules. Using advanced actions to create specific actions on clicks are great features of this software.
What do you dislike?
More intuitive shared actions or templates will be even more helpful. templates will help create courses faster.

Custom motion and preview options are excellent features of Adobe Captivate
What do you like best?
Tool is quite responsive, grouping of objects can be done and motion effects can be added, these can be timed, or on command. The nice part is that it doesn’t need separate programming. Custom motion and animation on objects can be controlled and done easily this is good for an engaged elearning project. Preview options are also available to see how they look. They can be made to be responsive for multi devices as well.
What do you dislike?
Not a lot of dislikes but compatibility with the LMS the course will be published to needs to be checked.

What do you like best?
Images and media assets are important for elearning to keep learners engaged.. Its convinient that Assets from Adobe stock can be used while creating the elearning courses.. A good collection of Images with transparent backgrounds, themes, scenarios, images for various industries are all available.
What do you dislike?
Adobe stock is not included in the Captivate Subscription though.. It will be good if there is a inclusive package with creative cloud and adobe stock.

What do you like best?
Adobe captivate allows import of powerpoint into captivate, this make it easy for making static slides into interactive learning modules or courses. Animations and other media can be added and synched to make an engaging learning experience.

Some functions are easier in powerpoint, captivate can be a little more complex for similar functions.

What do you like best?
Its great that Adobe Captivate addresses things like closed captions so that accessibility is enhanced. Closed captions on course slides, videos can be customized to show and appear in a specific way.

What do you like best?
Mobile learning has been an important aspect in elearning for quite some time now. With Captivate, the regular non mobile or desktop based courses can be imported into logical responsive modules for mobile based learning. The fluid boxes again come into play giving options for grouping and aligning, it allows you to customize them or accept them as is.
What do you dislike?
When publishing to web and multidevice, simpler options for editing fluid boxes will be helpful....

The 2019 VR 360degree features are exciting and futuristic. Adobe Captivate Typekit library has a good collection of Typography for fonts relevant to the course or modules. gives a neat and polished look to the course and a great learner experience.
What do you dislike?
Have to see how VR takes off in elearning. Suggestions or recommendations on best typography for type of content will be useful.

What do you like best?
Whats nice about Adobe Captivate is the various themes available based on the style or type of learning you want to create. There are options for backgrounds, fonts, themes etc.. Themes can be saved as well for reusing later. The fluid boxes also makes customization easy for various devices that learners will use for their elearning.
What do you dislike?
More general themes and templates for different industry or verticals will be very helpful . Will save time.

Easy to use interactive learning features like overlay
What do you like best?
The overlay slides in Adobe Captivate is a simple but a useful feature. Learner engagement is higher just by adding this simple overlay feature in the timeline onto a video or other content making it pretty interactive.
What do you dislike?
Compatibility between older and newer versions should be improved. Otherwise it is a great tool to use for courses.

What do you like best?
The live preview features are really good. By scanning QR codes it lets us see how the project looks on a mobile etc.. Allows preview for VR devices as well.
What do you dislike?
The software needs sufficient space and resources to work well. Small systems may not be able to take the workload.

Has good alignment capabilities for multiple devices..
What do you like best?
The fluid boxes seem much more improved and intuitive. With minimal clicks, it can align and distribute objects, Objects relations can be viewed easily and stacked together so it doesn’t misalign.
What do you dislike?
There are multiple panels for defining functions and interactions. It’ll be good if there is a single panel to do all these.

Well suited for creating simulation, walkthrough courses.
What do you like best?
Adobe captivate has excellent screen capture options especially for simulations, walkthroughs etc.. Keyboard activities, movements of mouse, actions performed on the screen, audio on the system, clicks and interactions etc.. can be captured in the recording frame and made responsive for multi devices.
What do you dislike?
It is better to use a good screen capture software so frames in between are not lost. These can be imported into Captivate.

Powerful tool to create engaging and immersive content.
What do you like best?
Captivate allows authors to create complex content. Features like geo location, mobile gesture recognition, virtual reality, responsive content creation using fluid boxes help in creation of immersive content. I like that tool gives enough power to authors to control learning outcome using custom logic and allows authors to view content as consumers of content would see it.
What do you dislike?
Tool is not easy to use, and new authors need to invest time to effectively use Captivate. Content creation process has a legacy feel to it and lacks seamless and effortless interfaces provided by some cloud-based tools.

Import options are good in Captivate. Saves time..
What do you like best?
The import options are quite impressive in Adobe Captivate. Especially with quizzes, questions, answers, marking, and logic, they can all be imported quickly using .csv files. It allows importing from other authoring tools as well. This saves a lot of time and effort.
What do you dislike?
User interface can be improved. For new users, navigating and understanding the options can be a bit challenging.

A versatile tool for having demo and simulation based courses.
What do you like best?
The Video options are quite smart. Quick good quality recording features are available. It is easy to take Screen and webcam recordings easily with a few clicks and edit options and easy adjust options make the interactive video learning more easy to do.
What do you dislike?
Cloud storage is important when dealing with rich media to save space and work. Would be good to have cloud storage options.

The new and enhanced interactive features are done well in Adobe Captivate. Once the 360° images or videos are imported, it allows course creator to add pointers for information, quizzes, audio files or points to navigate through the course. The learning retention is very high when it is interactive and it also helps in demos, walkthroughs and enables action oriented engaged learning.
What do you dislike?
Cache can get a bit heavy when using Video resources. Ensure sufficient memory space for the software to work seamlessly.

Captivate from Adobe has good Video integration and bookmarking features..
What do you like best?
A great addition to Captivate is the interactive capabilities in video based training. It allows linking with youtube videos or own videos and add check points at specific places for knowledge check or information. Bookmark features are available as well for future reference.
What do you dislike?
The learning curve is a bit high for Adobe Captivate compared to other authoring tools. The advanced actions are time consuming. It will be good if there are more ready buttons or functions.

Fluid boxes is a nice feature - the responsive environment boxes makes it easy.
What do you like best?
The enhanced fluid boxes auto aligns to devices or browsers, this makes it pretty responsive. You can use the predefined options as well. The UI and UX is neat because it enables auto align and auto adjust.
What do you dislike?
The Fluid boxes sometimes need to be defined a little too much. It would help if it were more intuitive and templatized.

The new VR and immersive learning features are great !
What do you like best?
Its nice to see the Immersive learning capabilities in the new version. Virtual Reality is a great feature that lets us assign hotspots, import 360° media and make the learning interactive.
What do you dislike?
One needs to go through help forums and a lot of documentation to find support. It would’ve been good if user support is quick and handy.

My Go-To Tool, I love its flexibility and versatility!
What do you like best?
I love Captivate's versatility! There's so much you can do with Captivate. It contains a great many features, some of which are easy to miss if you don't take care to look in the various menus and such. When I teach Captivate, even those who have been using it for years are sometimes surprised to see a feature that has been there for many versions but that they had missed, usually groaning and saying, "If only I had known that, I could have saved so much time on that last project!"
What do you dislike?
I would like to see a much better, flexible, and open editor in included for creating advanced actions, shared actions, and incorporating JavaScript. I'm a power user and sometimes I feel limited when I try to do something very high end. There are few tools that address that need and if Captivate can, it will make a big difference for power users.

What do you like best?
I like that the Folks at Adobe keep the software up to date with the latest technologies. I very seldom have to tell clients that we can't do that.
What do you dislike?
I think that there could be more resources for support. I created my YouTube channel in part because there were not enough good tutorials on how to use the software.

I am consultant/trainer for Advanced Adobe Captivate users.
What do you like best?
Its versatility: can be used for interactive software tutorials, for soft skill training, for presentation etc. The ability to extend its functionality using advanced/shared actions and JavaScript. The possibility to output to SWF and HTML, as responsive project or not and moreover to an app.
What do you dislike?
Inconsistency in UI. Lack of customisation of the UI, too much mouse movements and clicking since change with version 8.

Its ability to churn out various types of outputs, including mobile devices and the way it can be customized with good scripting knowledge.
What do you dislike?
It has steeper learning curve compared to its competitors, which discourages newbies.
