Strong foundation for building a member-centric community platform with trade-offs

What do you like best? With Hivebrite, we found a trusted platform to centralise community data, engage members, deploy events, handle communications, and group spaces all in one place. The directory is modern and searchable, the member map is visually impressive, and dashboards are responsive. It's a plus that the team responds to feedback and regularly ships improvements.
What do you dislike? However, the platform also comes with its downsides. It is more expensive than the simpler platforms available, and the initial outlay and customization bring an administrative burden that smaller teams can often severely underestimate. Specific modules still feel like “work-in-progress” (e.g., discussion forum, direct messaging, and integrations). If you’re looking for ultra-quick deployment or minimal bespoke work, you may face delays.

A versatile all-in-one community platform, with areas for improvement

What do you like best? Hivebrite offers an impressive feature set, including groups, event management (for both virtual and in-person events), a member directory, and custom fields, all in one place. Its modular nature allowed us to customize the audience and branding options for a high degree of alignment with our organisation’s visual identity. Filtering by skills and location, and connecting with organisations, has been particularly valuable for our professional and alumni community.
What do you dislike? Conversely, some of the modules are less polished, for example, the media centre, advanced analytics, and the learning/assessment workflows aren’t yet as robust as specialist platforms. The platform typically prefers organisations with more resources (time, admin, budget) to optimise it rather than small teams looking for plug-and-play simplicity.

Good customer support and scalable architecture for growing the community

What do you like best? The strongest aspect of Hivebrite is its support team and account management: conversations happen quickly, ideas are taken seriously, and the roadmap is communicated. The modularity of the system enabled us to grow beyond just an alumni directory; we also added mentorship, networking groups, and custom workflows for our worldwide community. Additionally, the multilingual support and map view of members (showing geographical distribution) were very helpful in driving engagement.
What do you dislike? The flip side is that the learning curve for admins is much steeper than advertised. Particularly when it comes to advanced integrations, creating custom forms, or flows. Certain features appear to be "locked behind” higher tiers or require additional consulting for an extra fee. This can cause issues for smaller teams.

User-friendly community management tool ideal for alumni networks and associations

What do you like best? We chose Hivebrite for our association because it provided a unified platform for managing member data, events, communications, and payments within a branded environment. We faced minimal friction during onboarding, as the dashboard was intuitively designed for non-technical users. Our members were able to use it and interact with it without requiring much training or orientation. Having the live-feed and group spaces drove immediate uptake and helped us build momentum in our engagement efforts.
What do you dislike? Despite the appealing user experience on the front end, the back office can feel fragmented when you begin to custom-build workflows that delve deeper into the details. The built-in analytics are sufficient for standard use, but we sought deeper insights, which we found require additional configuration or third-party tools. Furthermore, the pricing model lacks transparency, and extra modules and payment transaction fees can add up.

A strong community platform with customisation capabilities

What do you like best? We have been using Hivebrite for our alumni network and have found the custom profile fields, segmentation filters, and member directory to be incredibly useful. Their offerings include customizing communications, organizing events with online payment collection, and paid attendee management, built with simplicity and ease. It has a modern look and is easy to navigate, and our community really liked the live feed, job board, and group sections of the interface.
What do you dislike? While the main modules are robust and significantly better than what you'd find in a traditional desktop environment, the media-center and file-sharing modules are a bit less mature than the rest of the platform. We found that the setup took longer without an in-house tech resource, and some modules required workarounds due to our specific custom requirements. Also, the pricing starts at a significant level, which may deter smaller organisations.
