OpenEdX saved my startup company time and money by allowing me to train my sales agents online.

What do you like best? It is easy to break long courses into manageable chunks and to check a learner's understanding at each step. Usually this would require me to fly to meet my new sales agents, but now I can simply sign them up for the course and track their progress.
What do you dislike? We had to find a work-around for being able to hide internal (Sales agent) courses from the general public. It would be nice to have an internal course option available.

What do you like best? Perhaps the only robust and scalable open source platform that allows you to make your Open edX platform completely your own with full customization and branding support. You can have excellent support from its vibrant community. Its mobile app has facilitated millions of users to gain access to online learning.
What do you dislike? My experience has been quite satisfactory with Open edX usability and support.

Open edX is a great option for anyone looking for a platform to host online courses.

What do you like best? Since Open edX is an open source project, you are able to use it for free and you also benefit from the community effort around it. The Open edX community is comprised of people from all kinds of background willing to help anyone deploy, run and create content for Open edX. It's also very easy to create courses since Open edX provides multiple elements for content (text, HTML, videos, questions etc), and the user experience is clean and easy to navigate.
What do you dislike? The deployment can be a bit cumbersome since it's a fairly large project. Luckily you are able to get help from the community or reach out to vendors.

What do you like best? Studio: Easy to use and intuitive interface with inbuilt preview Student View: Green ticks on lesson/topic completion - makes a very strong visual stimulation and motivation!
What do you dislike? Student View had a tree structured menu earlier, which has now been removed. The earlier tree structure was easy to navigate and also a strong advanced organizer. I strongly feel it should be brought back.

What do you like best? Easy to create (or consume) content, with lots of features that allow the creation of interactive elements like quizzes.
What do you dislike? This field is supposed to be optional, yet your system is requiring some text for some reason. Nothing wrong with Open edX. We love it.

EdX has great flexibility, especially in the area of assessment.

Overall Rating 82%

What do you like best? EdX's assessment types are very flexible and robust. In addition to a number of standard built-in problem types (MC, check-all, numerical, etc.) it also provides ways to build your own custom problem types and custom graders. It's also very easy to incorporate custom interactives, with javascript and css allowed on almost every page.
What do you dislike? The tools for learner interaction (i.e. the forums) are fairly weak. They need more modern features, and especially more support for team-based moderation.

What do you like best? Great user experience and ui. Additional component can be created with the help of XBlock. All necessary features are here (timed exam, pre-requisites, completion indicators, forum, peer-assessment, staff-assessment, etc..). Can be use in white label platform.
What do you dislike? Software architecture might be complexe for non-it users, but MOOCit is here for you ;) Server requirements can be high especially if you planned to use and activate every features.

Overall Rating 86%

What do you like best? It is highly scalable and easy to use. It was developed by recognized universities and supported by a very active community. The interface is simple and straightforward. You can use a very simple setup or grow in services and functions as needed. It is well documented and it's possible to modify the code to adapt to special needs.
What do you dislike? The setup installation of the system (for a service provider, not for an end user) is a bit complex.

Open edX is the best open source software for building and hosting online courses, even at scale.

Overall Rating 89%

What do you like best? What I like most about Open edX is that it can be used by organisations of any size, small or large. Open edX is easy to integrate into your school, university, company or even government. It gives you so much control over the online learning experience and allows you to create fantastic online learning experiences for your learners or employees. Many of the world's most powerful organisations are using Open edX to offer educational opportunities to the public online, or for internal training.
What do you dislike? It may seem daunting at first because it is a very powerful system, but it only takes a few minutes to start getting the hang of things! It's easy.

Open edX is the open source learning platform that MIT and Harvard built for edx.org's 11M+ learners

Overall Rating 100%
  • Usefulness
  • Usability

  • Likelihood to Recommend
What do you like best? - In addition to the 11M+ users of edx.org, the Open edX software is used by 12M+ learners from corporations, universities, and nonprofits e.g. Microsoft, IBM, NYU and the US Air Force. - Proven user interface for instructors and learners. - No licensing, setup or royalty costs at all: the software is open source and you can install it freely at any time. - Its openness allows you to extend it into a data-driven, fully-featured and integrated platform of tools and learning components.
What do you dislike? As a platform that's fundamentally built to scale to tens of millions of learners, it's software architecture is more complex than most learning platforms'. Though this has zero impact on the instructor and learner experience (both are great), it does mean that it's sometimes more difficult for engineers to make deep customizations to the open source software without previous training.

It's the number one open source platform for MOOCs

Overall Rating 88%
  • Usefulness
  • Usability
  • Customer Experience
  • Likelihood to Recommend
What do you like best? It's powerful, scalable, flexible, simple to use and it has behind it the prestige of Universities like Harvard and the MIT. It allows you to create a very attractive and diverse learning experience including diferente type of activities and resources and allow the learner to enjoy and profit from their learning path.
What do you dislike? It's not yet catered to small on campus courses, mostly to MOOCs. It lacks flexibility in some of the features it includes, but both edX and the open source community are making continuous development and improvements over it, which is very valuable.

What do you like best? Pay only once for anything you would like to use! It's modular - you don't need to pay for what you don't need A lot of necessary stuff is free out of the box You can start small (almost free) and scale when it's needed
What do you dislike? The help from professionals is needed to set everything up (but when it's up and running - everything is ok) If you choose not that good technical team you risk having some problems with the system.
