'Best Online Distance Learning Programme' Gold For MLA College And Agylia

Agylia are delighted to celebrate the success of the Marine Learning Alliance (MLA) College in winning gold for ‘Best Distance Learning Programme’ at the Learning Technologies Awards. The Learning Technologies Awards honour the best in learning technologies and are judged by an independent panel of judges from across the world.

The MLA College won gold for their submission ‘Delivering degrees to seafarers without internet’, with the judges recognising the adoption of the Agylia Learning Management System (LMS) and mobile learning App based delivery as the solution to enable the MLA College to deliver high quality learning materials and qualifications, plus flexible and effective tutor support to students all over the world.

Dr. Richard Thain, Chief Executive of MLA College, said “I am extremely pleased that our programmes have been recognised in this way and I feel that this really highlights the quality of the design and delivery of our courses. Working in partnership with Agylia, we have been able to utilise modern learning technologies to take university learning to seafarers who would not otherwise have had the opportunity to engage with higher education.”

MLA College’s distance learning programme utilises the Agylia LMS and mobile learning Apps to deliver the College’s up-to-date learning materials to students, wherever and whenever required.

In a learning environment where students are working or travelling at sea for long periods of time - without a continuous connection to the internet - the Agylia mobile learning Apps enable students to download their learning materials while their device is online, ready for use while they are offline. The Apps provide full access to the learning materials and track the students’ progress, resynchronising seamlessly when the student next has a connection.

The Agylia mobile learning Apps enable the MLA College to deliver a variety of learning materials, including eLearning courses, videos, Office and PDF documents to their students. Latest news and content update notifications can also be delivered directly to the App, providing an engaging communications channel between the MLA College and their students.

Tim Buff, CEO and Chief Learning Strategist at Agylia said, “We congratulate the MLA College on this prestigious award. We are delighted to have worked in partnership with them to deliver this cutting-edge solution for distance learning, one that engages students and creates a working and collaborative learning environment - even when faced with the toughest delivery challenges.”
