Critical Thinking In Spidery Prose

This rather whacky 7th geek article has been written with a good dollop of artistic freedom. It features a she-spider and he-spider starting off on the wrong foot and then winding up strangely talking about virtual reality and augmented reality. Throughout the article nevertheless, there are actually some critical-thinking moments of clarity upon which the reader might dwell.

Using Elements Of Improv Theater For Virtual Onboarding: An Interesting And Effective Learning Tool

Face-to-face meetings, meeting in time-displaced blended settings like blogs, or meeting in virtual real-time like through video chat, or immersive 3D environments, all have their advantages and challenges. In virtual environments the non-verbal elements are limited. Whenever you don’t meet in real person, the lack of personal face-to-face communication is a gap that has to be overcome in all other virtual variations of get-togethers. So, organizations are now facing new challenges to virtual onboarding where it is essential to emphasize the interpersonal dynamics of virtual collaboration and establish practices for team building. This can be achieved by adopting some elements from Improv Theater.

Workplace Training Now Needs To Be More Flexible And Adaptive Than Ever

When I read that there is a “significant gap” between the skills and capabilities Learning and Development practitioners know they need compared to what they actually have, (according to latest research from the UK's Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) and research organization Towards Maturity), it came as very little surprise. [1] Workplace training needs to be more flexible, adaptive and innovative as staff are taking the lead on their training requirements not the Learning and Development department.

Virtual Worlds - Simulation or Reality?

It’s always interesting to note someone’s response when they hear you’re using a virtual world as a learning environment. Simulation is generally the word used in the response…‘Ah, so you’re simulating the real thing’. Well yes, I suppose we are. In a way. But what I’ve thought more and more about since implementing learning within a virtual world environment is that simulation and reality can become very blurred in the virtual world. I’m no longer certain it can be simply described as simulated learning – the experience is very real. So is it simulated? Or is it reality? And does it matter?
